Thinking about painting...

Pic is by Magmatrix, a GD entry

Hey.

You have all seen that my painting is kinda crappy, and I admit so myself. However, I have been thinking, as you know, about both a repaint of my SW and making a new army of pre heresy Thousand Sons. I have now added to the list the possibility of making pre heresy Emperors Children :P

My main goal with that is practice with NMM Gold. I found this awesome tutorial and was really inspired. His red is awesome, but what caught my eye was the fantastic gold and silver/metal he made on the entire model. The EC-thought came from a revalation that they are the one legion that can sport lots of gold trim without making it look strange. Thousand Sons might pull it off (and that would be great since I'd love to paint red AND gold) but the white trim looks so good on them that I am not sure I want to try it out on them.

What do you think? Purple with lots of NMM gold, Red with lots of NMM gold or Red, white and some gold (not much).

GothCon Army List

Hey.

I have been tinkering with my army list for GothCon 2011 and this is what I have come up with as version 1.0:

1750 SW GothCon
HQ
Wolf Lord - 260 points
Bike, Thunderhammer, Storm Shield, Runic Armour, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Saga of the Bear
Elites
Iron Priest - 165 points
Thunderwolf Mount, 4 Cyber Wolves, Wolf Tooth Necklace
Iron Priest - 165 points
Thunderwolf Mount, 4 Cyber Wolves, Wolf Tooth Necklace
Wolf Guards - 35
Drop Pod
Troops
10 Grey Hunters - 233 points
Plasma guns (2), Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard
Wolf Guard with Terminator Armour, Combi-Plasma, Power Fist
10 Grey Hunters - 220 points
Meltagun (2), Plasma Pistol, Mark of the Wulfen, Drop Pod
10 Grey Hunters - 220 points
Meltagun (2), Plasma Pistol, Mark of the Wulfen, Drop Pod
Fast Attack
3+1+1 SwifClaws - 218 points
Meltagun, Power Fist, Attack Bike
Wolf Guard with Bikes, Power Fist, Combi-Melta
3+1+1 SwifClaws - 218 points
Meltagun, Power Fist, Attack Bike
Wolf Guard with Bikes, Power Fist, Combi-Melta
Grand total: 1734 points, Comp: 57

As you can see, I have some points left. Any suggestions on what to do with them? I am currently thinking about dropping one of the Iron Priests in favor of a Dreadnought or some Scouts. I may also add some more bikes, since they are what is my "new" unit in this army.

The tactics are really simple yet, I hope, effective. The WGs spare Drop Pod is there to make the two GH squads come down on turn one, and then I'll support them with the bikes, Lord and Iron Priests. That should give enough of a choice for the enemy to shoot at, and my hope is that the Iron Priest is gonna draw some fire away from the GHs and Swiftclaws who in turn are supposed to open transports and tear up what's inside (GHs for the first, bikes for the latter). The large GH pack is supposed to slog up the field to take any middle objectives or just hold one in my deployment zone. They pack a lot of plasma to threaten anything that comes close.

That is it for today. Hopefully you'll get an interesting article from a friend of mine in a few days, were he discusses his Daemon list and it's uses (and hopefully how to take it out). It is a post that I look forward to, a lot, since I have never won against that list. One draw in like 15 games. That's not a good record ;)

Cheers,

Beastmen for sale

Well, since I seem to never get any motivation to put some paint on them, and the games I have played with the 8th edition rules so far have been less then satisfactory I have decided to sell my whole Beastmen army. I have about 2000-2500 points depending on how you build characters, so it is not that much anyway. I hope that it should at least get me some money to go and buy some new stuff (read: bikes) for my Space Wolves, and maybe be the start to my Pre-heresy Thousand Sons project that I'll try to get going in january, after my exams. With a little luck I might actually be able to get my T-Sons ready for GothCon, tough I doubt that.

So if you want a Beastmen army, with parts of it painted to TT standard and parts (the largest part) still on the sprue just comment, or send me an e-mail. ;)

On another note, I am gonna keep working on my Thunderwolf counts as. I still hope to get some Mythicast wolves for christmas, since my GF seem a bit, just a little bit, secretive when I start talking about christmas presents, but I need something to use for now, and if I get the Myhticast ones I can just use them as Fenrisan Wolves. Here is however a pic of how they are supposed to look:

This is not mine, but the guy who made them is the one who gave me the idea to do something similar. Very cheap, and still cool and effective. I havent got any chains yet, but I guess I have to get some eventually.

Stay tuned, and I'd love to have a comment or two to see that someone is actually reading this once in a while ;)

Cheers,

- Natanael

GothCon 2011

Hey.

So, with me skipping the WHFB-tournament (didnt manage that much painting) I have set my sights on another, much larger, thing. GothCon is Swedens largest convention with 1200+ people every year playing all sorts of board-,roleplaying- and miniaturegames. The 40K tournament is host for the national championsship every other year. This year it is not, so I see it as good practice for me :P I am not that good anyway, but it will be great fun.

This also presets me with a challenge: What list should I take?

I'm gonna go with my Space Wolves, obviously, but after reading Littlbitz tactica on bikes over at B&C (here) I have been thinking about doing a combined list with TWC and bikes. Then comes another problem of sorts. In sweden we play with a composition system (you find it here) that have quite a heavy penalty on TWC and Characters on Thunderwolves. Despite this, I was thinking of going with one unit, but then I realised that the Iron Priest is not only cheap, but also really cheap in composition score. Maybe I can get two of them, combine with some hard hitting characters, and manage to get my Speeders into the last Fast Attack slot instead of the thunderwolves.

What do you guys think? Should I go with my usually kinda 'ard TWC-army, with very low comp, or should I try to go the Swiftclaw/Iron Priest route and try something new?

40K Battle

Hey.

So I went to my local club tonight with a friend, and since he wanted to try his army for a tourney I ended up playing his Imperial Fists. Kinda nice to play something but my Space Wolves, but since I havent played in a while I really want to get some games in with them as well.

He played a version of his Loganwing:

Logan
10 TDA Wolf Guards w/ 2x CML and some other kit
4x5 TDA Wolf Guards w/ CML and some other kit. I think he had at least one combi-plasma in each.

My list was something like this:

Lysander
9 Sternguard with 2x Combi-Meltas and a Pod
2x Ironcald in Pod

2x10 Tactical Squads with Melta/Flamer, Missile Launcher, Power Weapon and Multimelta-Razorback
1x 10 Tactical Squad with Meltagun, Lascannon, Power Fist, Combi-Melta and Razorback

2x Typhoon

I'm not gonna do a turn by turn, but just a quick debreif as last time.

Above is his Logan, who is painted very very nice. His enitre army is comission-painted, and he paid extra to get Logan looking ace. My flash kinda ruined it, but at lest you can see some of the awesome painting.

This is his deploy. He also had one squad on each flank, but they didnt do much this game. Killed a razorback or something like that.

This is my deploy. On my other flank I had the last Razorback and Speeder hidden behind a house.

In his first turn I had suck bad luck with my dice(cover saves mostly) that I had to build a little pyramid to please the dice gods. To my suprise they actually seemed to hear me, and my rolls improved for a turn or two :P

This is my initial drop. The best thing to do would probably have been to hang back, shoot him and deny him as much kill points as I could. I had 18, he had 6 anyway, so. :P But that is kinda booring, so I went for it. Tried to block some of his guys with the pods, but did'nt do as good as I would have wanted. Still, Lysander and his boys shot a 5 man squad, and I was confident they were going down. Sadly, he made a ton of saves and I only killed one. And that was the pace of the game :P

A turn later he hade cleaned up my Lysander, Sternguards and the Ironclad. I moved everything forward and shot him. Killed some guys, but not enough.

Then he charged me, killed all my men and my Ironclad failed to kill Logan.

This last pic is just before my "awesome" last charge. Logan went first and killed the whole squad :( In the end he won 14-1 in kill points. The mission sucked for me, since I had trouble outshooting him and had no chance in close combat. Were is my plasma when I need it? I actually took out 14 Wolf Guards, almost 1/2 his army (he has 31 models I think) but since the wounds were divided on all his squad, it didnt do much good.

Well, stay tuned.

Battle =)

Hey.

Yesterday, as I said, we had a game of 40K. Since both my friends are kinda new to 40K, we played 2000p Nids vs. 1000p Imperial Guard and 1000p Space Wolves (me). I played a kinda fun list, just to have some different units in, so they can learn. We got Dawn of War, with the two objective mission. Sucks, but still, we ignored it quite much.

Anyway, I took some pictures of the "event", fo your pleasure.

Above is the board. Since my friends are WHFB-players, it was not as much good terrain as it should be. We had no ruins and not much in the way of LOS-blockers. But well, we made quite a good shooting gallery ;) You can see in the large stone-thingy that there are some Lascannons, not painted, and a squad of Guardsmen. That was our initial deploy. The Tyrans in the lower left is gonna be placed a bit more in cover, but otherwise right there.

Here is the right flank on our turn 1. He put 24 Hormagaunts there as his starting troops, and so I rolled in with my crusader and rhino to deal with them and hold this flank. Night Fight screwed this up, tough, since all that could see was my AC who killed 3.

Imperial Guard left flank. Here was a real shooting gallery. This is alo our turn 1, so not much Nids around yet. We managed to take out like 50% of the Ripper Swarms with some lucky shooting.

This is like turn 3 or something. I cleaned out the Hormagaunts, only to be a little overconfident and so I got charged by Stealers and Warriors. Luckily, the stealers could not hurt the rhino, and my Grey Hunters held after loosing six of their number. I killed a warrior tough =D

Turn 4, he was very very close to the Guard lines. My Lone Wolf facing off against his tyrant didnt happen tough, as the IG shooting cleaned it all up =D

At turn 4, we had to call it, since I needed to go. This was how my flank looked tough. The LRC is dead, and the two GHs holding the warriors are very soon dead as well. And the pesky genestealer holding my HQ and other GH squad (the ball in the middle) died also. Only problem is that next is the tyranids turn 4, and since there was no time, we worked out what would probably happen. To keep it short, I just removed all my models :P

Game ended with us having one objective, but the Warriors, Trygon and Old One Eye were very close, able to charge in the next turn. And I dont think that the IG would have had any chance of standing up against them. We called it a draw ;)

Thunderwolves counts as and Bestigors

I hate putting together Bestigors. Gluing the bodies to the bases work fine, but getting the arms to line up nicely is a real pain. I managed to do four, then my back started to hurt and my patientce went out the window.

So I made some progress on my TWC counts as instead. =D This is the greens, that is dire wolves with some GS fur. Below is the final product. The plan is to have two of them, together with a marine, mounted on a 60mm base, counting as TWC. Easy, cheap and nice. If I ever get some rea TWC models I can just use them as fenrisan wolves instead.

That is all for today. Or maybe not. I'm going to a friends place to get some computer gamining done, but I told him I'd bring some of my Space Wolves so we might have a game as well. Anyway, stay tuned and tell your friends about me :P

Beastlords...

Hey.

I've been thinking about the army list I am gonna bring to the tournament I mentioned earlier. Since I have no Minotaurs I'm gonna have to go with the Beastlord, Wargors and the Shamans as my characters. The point limit is 2250, and that leaves me with 562,5 points to spend at my Lords, at most. Usually, I run a Beastlord in Razorgor Chariot with Brass Cleaver, Charmed Shield, Heavy Armour and Gnarled Hide. Semi-cheap for what he does, and a real beast (no pun intended :P) against rank and file infantry, even the more elite types. Impact hits + his "high" I attacks usually limits the incoming attacks when going up against more elite stuff, while the high rate of attacks can plow through any rank and file in the game.

This time, however, I am thinking about playing with him on foot, in my Beastigor block. With Standard of Dicipline on them, and the BSB in close proximity, I suddenly have a Ld 10, with re-roll, unit to put right down the middle of my line. With the usually low Ld the Beastmen have, it seems like a great idea if I am go to anywhere in this tournament.

What do you guys think? Any equipment suggestions for the BL on foot? Or should I just go with the überkilly Charot-Lord?

WHFB tournament coming up...

I know, I know. I havent updated in two days. My reason is... GF :P Yep, I went to my girlfriends yesterday and just came home. We're going to Kenya during the holidays (x-mas and that) so hade some stuff to take care of (read: visas), and I managed to get stuck there (no suprise there).

Anyway - on the news side, my local store have annunced a 2000p Fantasy Tournament in a few weeks and I thought to myself "Why not get the Beastmen ready for that?". So from now on you will probably see mostly Beastmen around here, since I need to get a 2000p list written and then ready. I will NOT play with unpainted models, that is a big no-no.

So, what I have already painted is 20 Gors, 20 Ungors and 10 Warhounds. What I got in the works are 20 more Gors, 20 more Ungors, 3 Converted Razorgor Chariots, 20 Bestigors and a box of 10 Gors to make all the Characters I need. Now I just need to work that into a list =D

If you have any tips, please let me know. I dont have any extra models, but lots of GS and Plasticard to make strange things. Actually,  I also have six or seven horses that I could combine with Gors to make Centigors. They suck, but are cool ;)

That is all for now. No pic for you today :(

SW leg conversion

Hey.

As promised, some pics of my SW.

Here you can see the first two steps. First I cut off everything that is sticking out from the boot and the knee armour. Then I put a small band of, in this case, grey stuff to simulate the marine feet were the armour is kinda banded. Then:

I add some GS to the rest of the leg, tking care to assure that the banding is showing. This batch was a bit of a mistake tough, since I put the first layer to far up towards the leg, and it made the whole thing look a bit wierd. Hopefully you get the idea anyway.

That's all for now. Cheers.

I found some marines...

Yes, that's right. I had nothing to do, so I went over my bitz boxes and to mu suprise I found a tactical squad, complete with Missile Launcher and Flamer. So I dug a little deeper and found another 17 marines that were just hiding in my boxes for various reasons. Some I got long ago from a friend, and some have been wash-tests. Now, however, I feel that the time has come to do something with them. A few friends of mine are just starting out 40K, so this is actually quite a perfect moment to start a new army. Since they are only gonna play small games for a while (1000p at most) I should be able to build an army up to that limit without too much cash being lost in the process. I have also got a couple of terminators that are left over from my Wolfwing, so I got a good start for a footslogging force right away.

Here is a pic of the marines that I found:

I am thinking about making them into some pre-heresy Emperors Children or Thousand Sons and have them as a slow project to get better at painting. I've always wanted a nicely blended red army, so the T-Sons are a distinct possibility. What do you guys think?

Sculpting some more Grey Hunter

Well, it is not as dramatic as it sounds. I'me not sculpting them from scratch. Really, I am only sculpting their leg-armour, the lower part :P

I am one of the people who made their SW from the Chaos Warrior sprues from WHFB, but since I managed to get my hands on like 30+ of them already glued together for CHEAP I thought about making them more marine-ish. So, my leg armour modding was invented, and here is the old result:

(This pic is taken with my iPhone camera, I think. Is this better then the other ones?)

You can see, albeit not that good, how I've cut off some of the leg armour and sculpted something that should look like marine armour over it. Not very good, but hopefully my new attempts will be better =D. I found 6 Chaos Warriors hiding in my bitz box, and after some cutting and chopping I got some grey stuff on them, using my shiny new clay shapers.  Ill show you guys tomorrow when I've made a little more progress. Hopefully they will be better looking so I can feel that I have at least evolved my sculpting"skills".

That would be all, fellas.

More Beastmen and Ultramarine Movie

Hey guys.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but yeah, here it comes :P

I've got the 20 Gors almost done, just a few details to do, as well as paint the bases and put some snow on them. Gonna try and make some Razorgors from Tuskgors this week using my Grey Stuff that I got from a local store. I have never used in before but I've heard that is should be easier to use then the GW Green Stuff. Do you have any experiance with that? I got it from a company called Gale Force 9.

I dont know really how to get better pics, but if you guys have any tips, please tell me. =D

I've also found a review of the GW move - Ultramarines. It's from the guys at the Space Wolfs Blog, so enjoy.

Well, that would be all for now.

Weekend away

Well, I didnt manage to upload any pics last night, but I did finish, more or less, the 20 Gors. I'll upload pics as soon as I've taken any, tought that might take a while since I'm going away for the weekend. Still, since I need to give you guys something I'll add a few good tournament reports.

One is from B&C, from the SW forum and the other is from BoLS.

Space Wolf reports
Blood Angel reports

Hope you guys enjoy. None of them is mine, as you can see, but still, they are good stuff =D

Painting Beastmen

I hate painting :P Mostly because I really suck at it. So when it came to start a Fantasy-army I picked Beastmen not only for the different playstyle and models (I used to play Dwarves) but also because they are very wash friendly. That said, I still suck.

I got some work done on my Gors yesterday anyway. I have about 20 or so sitting on my desk in the same state as the pics. Washed, drybrushed and then the metals and horns have been picked out. They dont look good, but they look TT, and that is all I ask.

'Ere u go:

Above is with flash and macro function. Still trying to figure out how to take good photos. Below is without flash but till macro function.

Well, that is all for now. I'd be very happy to hear if you guys have any tips or anything to help me out with my painting. Hopefully I can get to show you my thunderwolves tonight or tomorrow. Gonna show of my "skills" with GS :P

My army at BSK

Hey guys.

My army have been at a team tournament this weekend. Well, parts of it at least. A friend of mine borrowed it to build a specific wolf list to complement the other 3 players/lists in their team. It goes like this:

Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf (HQ) 275 Pts

5x Wolf Guard Pack (Troops) 175 Pts
     5x Combi-Plasma, 1x Power Fist
     Razorback
     TL Multi-Melta

5x Wolf Guard Pack (Troops) 175 Pts
     5x Combi-Plasma, 1x Power Fist
     Razorback
     TL Multi-Melta

5x Wolf Guard Pack (Troops) 155 Pts
     5x Combi-Plasma
     Razorback
     TL Multi-Melta

5x Wolf Guard Pack (Troops) 155 Pts
     5x Combi-Plasma
     Razorback
     TL Multi-Melta

6x Long Fangs Pack (Heavy Support) 175 Pts
     5x Multi-Melta
     Drop Pod

6x Long Fangs Pack (Heavy Support) 150 Pts
     5x Heavy Bolter
     Drop Pod

2x Land Speeder Tornado (Fast Attack) 120 Pts
     2xHeavy Bolter

2x Land Speeder Tornado (Fast Attack) 120 Pts
     2xHeavy Bolter

Models in Army: 43
Total Army Cost: 1500

Kinda nasty army if I may say so. It can handle most things very well and the combi-plasma/melta combos is really scary for marine armies. If you wonder about the 2nd pod (the MM-Long Fangs are for Logan) it is there to be able to drop Logan and his boys on a later turn. Since by the DP-rules you have to drop 1/2 of your pods first turn you just drop an empty pod if you dont want Logan and his guys in until later. Nifty =D

I havent got any pics of that, yet, since I havent talked to him to see if he took some. So you'll have to wait for that, but until then you can have a look at the combi-plasmas (some of them) that I made for this army. Made about 10 of this design and the rest in various designs.

Well, hope you guys enjoy.

WHFB

Hey. I had a game againt s friends skaven last week. It was a lot of fun, but since we're both new to 8th, and kinda new to WHFB overall, we made some errors with the rules. Nevertheless it was a great game, turning out to be a draw since he killed over 600p worth of units the last turn :(  Pics are kinda bad since I did only have my iPhone at the moment.

Above is a pic of turn 3 or something like that. The VC-chariot is a counts as Beastlord on razorgor chariot, taking on his large unit of Stormvermin =D He made a mess of them thanks to some good rolls on my part and great magic items. Also in the bottom right is my 40-man Horde of Ungors who started in reserve and then did nothing bot move up, run back, rally and move up, the whole game.

A better pic of the same thing. You can see my gors flanking his rat ogres in the top right, as well as my BSB-ogre (minotaur) in the action.

Why is Galrauch there? I hear you ask? Well, my lvl 4 Schaman manged to get of the best spell of the Beast Lore and transformed himself into a mountain chimera =D It was glourious even tough it just lasted for one turn. 4D6 S7 attacks att I7 is great =D

That would be all for now, folks.

The startup

Hey everyone.

I am just starting out, but I hope you'll stay tuned for when the number of posts grow. This blog will be about my gaiming, converting, painting of my 40K and WHFB-armies (so far only about 5000p Space Wolves and about 2500p Beastmen). I'd like to add that I am not a pro gamer/converter/painter, far from it. I guess I am just that regular gamer that does this just for fun. Hopefully tough, I'm gonna start a true scale/pre-heresy project kinda soon (when I get some money). Until then you'll just have to be satisfied with my Space Wolves and Beastmen. I need to get all of them painted anyway...

And since a picture is what everyone wants I present to you, Logan Grimnar(my own version):

The pic is taken at my desk, so no lightbox or anything. Gonna try and get me one(build it, that is) to get some better pics for you guys.
